DETECTIVE Constable Scott Nicholls is in hot pursuit of a target, but it's not a criminal he's chasing.
The 37-year-old will join three colleagues on August 24 in the Oxfam Australia 100km ultra marathon in a bid to raise $5000.The marathon, which starts at Sydney's Chowder Bay and ends on the Hawkesbury River, represents Const Nicholls' first, especially over such a long distance. The Illawarra officer has undertaken an extensive training schedule with fellow runners Senior Constable Jeff Hohnen, of the Middle Eastern Crime Squad, Snr Const Max Kral, of Campbelltown, and Sgt Paul Smith, of Sutherland. This has included weekly 30km runs and hill and bush running."We thought we would put ourselves through a bit of pain for a good cause," he said. "It's also a good excuse to get fit. Although, thankfully we don't have to chase criminals for 100km."The team of four hopes to complete the event within 18 hours. They have set themselves a fundraising target of $5000, a goal being assisted by major sponsors including Fuel Power at Balgownie, KNR Fabrication Unanderra, CG Automotives Bellambi and Rebel Sport."The Oxfam Australia marathon has been held in Sydney since 1999 - to date more than $60 million has been raised to provide emergency humanitarian relief work around the world," Const Nicholls said.Sponsors are still being sought, including for equipment and clothing.
